TAKING A NORTH TIER COURSE Register for a course - opens Jan. 7, 2010. Spring 2010 Catalog North TIER sponsors ETLO, PBS TeacherLine, and its own North TIER-developed courses. Classes vary from semester to semester. Participants may register for ONLY 2 classes during a semester. North TIER courses are not conducted at a certain time of day, as these courses are delivered online. Also, there is no pre-determined login time during the week. You may log into the class at any time, AS LONG AS YOU LOG IN WITHIN THE WEEK. Instructors will post assignments and discussion questions online. Participants are required to login during the week, complete class assignments, and participate in the discussion boards. Participants can expect to spend 4-5 hours a week completing class activities. PBS TeacherLine Courses TeacherLine courses are offered for recertification points OR GRADUATE CREDIT. Course participants are required to pay the $25 for the course and pay for their own graduate credit points (prices vary depending on the number of credits taken and the college to which the credits are applied). TeacherLine courses are NOT ALWAYS offered through North TIER. Check the current North TIER catalog. However, PBS TeacherLine courses run on the state and national levels for recertification points or graduate credit throughout the year at your own cost. ALSO NOTE: Participants taking Teacherline courses must drop at both the TeacherLine and My Learning Plan site before the drop deadline to avoid losing the registration fee and receiving a failing grade ETLO/North TIER Courses Every semester, North TIER runs a variety of ETLO and North TIER developed courses. How do I register? – New and Returning Users Registration and Refund Policies Spring Semester 2010 Information HOW TO REGISTER –New & Returning Users Please read the registration and refund policies before registering. By registering, a participant agrees to these policies. Please read the following directions carefully. TO REGISTER: - Go to the North Tier registration site at MyLearningPlan.
- Click on “VIEW CATALOG.
- Look through the list of courses and locate the course you wish to take. Then choose the “CLICK TO ENROLL” button..
AT THIS POINT:
- If you have taken a North TIER course before, click on “I’M A REGISTERED USER,” and you will be prompted to sign into your account.
- If you have never taken a North TIER class before, click on “I’M A NEW USER” to create a user name and password and sign up for courses.
- Once you have completed the registration and entered your credit card number, you will receive an email confirming your enrollment.
You should hear from your instructor via email close to the beginning date of the course with further instructions. IF YOU DO NOT HEAR FROM YOUR INSTRUCTOR WITHIN 3 DAYS OF THE START DATE OF THE COURSE, please contact your North TIER representative or Agatha Jenkins immediately. No drops or refunds will be allowed after Feb. 7th! There is a $25 registration fee for each North TIER course. Additionally, participants must agree to the following terms and conditions:
- Complete a pre-training and follow-up survey.
- Work with another teacher on developing a technology-infused lesson, unit, or project at some point in the future. You may be asked to provide the North TIER with the name(s) of the colleague(s) who worked with you directly as a result of the professional development opportunity.
- Agree to the following North TIER policies. IN PARTICULAR, PLEASE NOTE THE DROP POLICIES.COURSE POLICIES
- Course Participants may take only 2 North TIER-sponsored online courses per semester. Do not register for more than 2 courses, as you will lose the $25 registration fee for each additional course.
This fee is used to off-set the course cost of $200 per participant paid by the North TIER and allows the North TIER to continue offering high-quality professional development and grants into the future. Fees will be refunded if North TIER cancels the class. - Participants who sign up for a course may drop a course either before the course begins or within one week of the start of the course. Drops without penalty will not be allowed after the first week of a course and NO REFUND WILL BE OFFERED. PLEASE NOTE: PBS Courses must be dropped at BOTH the MyLearningPlan site AND the PBS site before the drop deadline. Please contact a North TIER representative with questions.
If the participant does not satisfactorily complete the course performance requirements, and the participant does not withdraw from a course during the first week, the participant may be ineligible to take any additional courses offered through the North TIER. Decisions may be appealed through the participant’s local North TIER representative, who will then forward the appeal request to the appropriate North TIER review committee. Additionally a failing grade will be recorded for the course and this grade information will be forwarded to the local school division. - Participants are expected to maintain academic integrity.
Instances of academic dishonesty such as plagiarism will result in a failing grade being reported for the course. A failing grade precludes any opportunity to take additional North TIER offerings. Students may appeal the course facilitator’s recommendation by following the guidelines above. Additionally this information will be forwarded to the local school division. - Any participant may grieve a course evaluation of his/her performance if the evaluation is deemed by the student to be arbitrary and capricious.
Participants must provide in writing within two weeks of the end of the training. A form for this request is available through the North TIER representatives.

SPRING SEMESTER 2010 Spring semester 2010 registration begins January 7th and runs through January 25th. Participants can register ONLY within the dates listed. Classes run February 1 - March 21st. Drops without penalty must occur before the class begins or within the first week of instruction (by February 7th). Drops after this time will result in the loss of the $25 registration fee and could result in being restricted from taking further North TIER classes. (PLEASE NOTE: If you are taking a PBS TeacherLine course, you must drop at BOTH the MyLearningPlan site AND with the PBS site within the allotted time.
