FALLS CHURCH, VA & MINNEAPOLIS, MN- NHK World TV increased its US distribution recently with the launch of it 24/7 channel in the greater Minneapolis metro area on MPS Cable on November 14.
Already an affiliate of MHz Worldview, the decision for MPS Cable to include Japan's premier broadcaster in their channel line-up was one that simply fit mission. Coleen Kosloski, Executive Director of Technology at Minneapolis Public Schools says, ”NHK World offers our students another world perspective to compliment MHz Worldview and our diverse education mission to prepare students for 21st century living."
MPS Cable is a division and teaching resource of Minneapolis Public Schools. The MPS district is the choice for 35,000 students and their families. In addition, nearly 25,000 adult learners embrace life-long learning through a variety community education courses. The district believes relationships – with families and community partners – are a critical component of helping all learners reach higher.
MHz Networks is also developing educational curriculum to correspond with content from its international broadcast partners. The project development is intended to span into next year with a prospective third quarter 2009 launch.

NHK World TV, an international television service by NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) is Japan’s public broadcaster, which holds the largest domestic and international television network in Japan. It runs five TV channels (two terrestrial, three satellite), and three radio services in Japan. It also broadcasts two international television channels, and international radio services in 18 languages.
NHK World TV is on the air 24 hours a day, sharing the latest news and information from Japan. NHK World TV aims to promote international understanding of Japan by offering a broad range of impartial information and Japanese perspectives.
Launched in 1995, NHK World TV has been offered worldwide via three communications satellites. NHK has recently renewed its program line-ups to target a more global audience, resulting in over 80% of its programs being available now with either English audio or subtitles. Coverage is being enhanced by basing NHK World TV reporters at key bureaus and stations around Asia. NHK NEWSLINE, the channel’s flagship news program, has a new look and revamped content.
As well as delivering the latest news and current affairs programs, NHK World TV offers a wide variety of programming: the latest trends in Asia and Japan, the newest technology and products, music, fashion, culture and media events- providing perspectives and reports on the region that are not familiar to American viewers.
