FALLS CHURCH, VA- As part of the technical build-out working towards the move to digital broadcasting February 2009, the MHz Networks broadcast tower in Merrifield received a new digital antenna October 26.

The old antenna that gave life to channel 56 for the past 25 years was removed and replaced with the new digital antenna. US Tower Services Ltd. and Construction Helicopters, Inc. removed the old analog antenna and its pedestal and replaced it with the new antenna and corresponding pedestal. Weighing 6700 pounds and spanning 50' 10 3/4" feet, the new Dielectric antenna was placed atop MHz Network's broadcast tower in a task that took roughly 4 hours to complete.

The 614-foot tower was built in 1981 and the MHz Networks broadcast center was dedicated the next year.

As mandated by the FCC, all broadcast stations must move to digital broadcast by February 17, 2009. On this date, ten MHz Networks channels will be found on broadcast channels 30 - 30.10. Viewers will awake to find a dynamic range of world perspectives available over the air, all for free.
