MHz Staff Featured on Various Panels at SilverDocs, June 21-27
FALLS CHURCH, VA- Several MHz Networks staff will be featured speakers or part of panels, sharing expertise in international media and film at the SilverDocs Festival, held in Silver Spring, MD, June 21-27.
Tuesday, June 22
• Independent Producer Manager, Vincent Jack will be part of a panel called, "It Is a Small World After All- Bringing The World to U.S. Audiences,” at 2:30 PM.
Wednesday, June 23
• Education Director Elizabeth Pringle will be on a Good Pitch panel at which 8 filmmakers will have an opportunity to pitch their projects.
Thursday, June 24
• MHz Networks Chief Executive Frederick Thomas will be holding a Silver Session (small groups at which attendees can meet with programming execs, distributors, PR/marketing consultants, etc.) at a Silver Session called “The World Is Good: Presenting the Case In America” at 1:15 PM.
Since the beginning of TV time, traditional American media have presented the world to Americans as a dangerous place – full of tidal waves, earthquakes, and failing governments. Increasingly there is a sense, however, that the world might be catching up and in fact surpassing us. This offers a tremendous opportunity for documentary filmmakers who are interested in dispelling world myths and presenting world themes outside of the norm.
• Agatha Jenkins, MHz Education Outreach Specialist presents a workshop called "Reel Learning in the Classroom: Turning Curriculum into Dynamic Student Movies" with Harry Costner, Exemplary Projects Teacher from Gunston Middle School in Arlington, VA.
The hands on workshop will take participants step by step through the process of developing a specific item of curriculum into a story ready to create as a classroom film. Brainstorming strategies and organizational tools will be presented, as well as fundamental classroom filmmaking tips that will aid participants in efficiently producing their own student-driven media at 1- 2:30 PM.
The Shortie Awards 2010 documentary winner, Bryan DeLeon will be sitting on a youth voices panel with other filmmakers from around the world. His film,”A Crecer Como Una Persona,” will be screened at this panel.
