Experience Film by International Youth at Embassy of France on May 23
FALLS CHURCH, VA- Held at La Maison Francaise in Washington, DC on May 23, The Shortie Awards, International Film & News Festival is a free film festival recognizing original digital media productions created by student filmmakers, ages 7-18, and their teachers. This year is the ninth annual festival.
Screening of films begins at 2 PM, with the awards ceremony beginning at 3 PM in the La Maison Francaise auditorium. The awards are co-hosted by recording artist Danni Rosner and musician Louis Fabrizi, who will also perform their newly-produced theme song for Shortie.
With nearly 450 films created by 3000 student and teacher filmmakers from all over the world, this years’ entries stem from 20 states and 10 countries.
Entries this year originated from Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, China, India, Sri Lanka and the UK, as well as California, Colorado, DC, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
The entry categories are: Live Action: Narrative, Documentary, Experimental, PSA, Music Video, or Other. Animation: Stop-Motion, Claymation, Machinima, Digital, or Other, and Daily News Broadcast.The age categories are: - 7-10 years old (2nd to 5th grade), 11-14 years old (6th to 8th grade), 15-18 years old (9-12th grade), and K-12 teachers.
Attendees will make their voice heard for the Audience Choice Awards and there are opportunities to win vintage Shortie t-shirts throughout the event. Admission is free, but reservation is required. Contact pbalakrishnan@mhznetworks.org to reserve your seat by May 20.
